SRH Training for Primary Care Practitioners

SRH Essentials is a one-day interactive evidence-based learning experience. The course provides a solid foundation for those who see patients with sexual and reproductive health needs but who have had little or no formal SRH training, or need a refresher. Delegates acquire the skills to consult patients knowledgeably and confidently on contraception, STI testing and emergency contraception.

This course was originally designed by the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) for practice nurses with little or no SRH experience, enabling them to develop their SRH knowledge and skills to manage consultations with confidence.

SRH Essentials has now been opened up to a wider audience by the FSRH and anyone with a professional registration (GMC, NMC, GPhC, etc)  – may attend. This includes

• GPs
• Nurses
• Physicians Associates
• Paramedics
• Pharmacists

For those who hold the Diploma of the FSRH, we suggest that the course content is not generally suitable for updating and that the Margaret Pyke Webinars are more fitting for this purpose.

On completion of SRH Essentials, delegates will have the skills and confidence to:

• Assess when a patient is at risk of pregnancy
• Assess when a patient needs emergency contraception and what method can be recommended safely
• Review the COC, POP and injection contraceptive methods
• Carry out sexual health risk assessments
• Identify when a patient is at risk of STIs
